Since we are all on this planet together, Sun's Eye Power installs solar systems around the world in an effort to help alleviate the need to build more coal fired power plants and provide electricity to those who need it the most. See our latest project below.
The UN says a minimum requirement to move out of poverty is access to energy and clean water. As many a two billion people lack these basic needs. Solar power provides one of the solutions to this problem. Most energy in the poor areas of developing countries comes from wood and kerosene. Providing electricity using the sun can prevent deforestation and promote energy independence from costly petroleum imports or dirty coal.
Sun's Eye Power has teamed up with non profit organizations like Rotary International, the Northwest Solar Group, and the Solar Electric Light Fund to provide solar power solutions to meet real needs. We work together to install durable long lasting solutions.
Sun's Eye Power develops training programs for local technicians and communities so that they may maintain their systems and can start small solar businesses installing clean energy.
If you have thought that you too can make a difference, then contact us to find out how you can join in this effort to bring clean power to places that are most in need. If you know a community with serious energy needs, contact us about working together to provide a solar solution.
Our Latest Project: Ghana in April 2010!
We are installing solar power for water pumping systems in two villages in Northern Ghana this year. This is a joint project of Always On Solar and World Vision. We are doing extensive training for representatives from each community and the staff at World Vision's Ghana Rural Water Project as part of the project. Since each community will own its power plant and pumping system, we want to provide the training capacity so that the systems can be maintained and give years of clean water. This project will provide the power plant, pump, water delivery system, and the necessary training for $62.00 per person served. To find out the latest information, please check out the blog. For more details on this and other joint ventures, see the Always On Solar website. (www.alwaysonsolar.org)
Possibilities for solar in the developing world:
Water Pumping: Solar power to pump water is one the most efficient uses of solar power. The sun shines and powers a pump for irrigation which can increase crop yield and help farmers earn more for their crops. No batteries are needed, no power lines, no monthly bills. Local ownership and control become the norm. We can help communities meet their water needs.
Water Purification: Solar power can be used to zap dirty water with UV light to kill bacteria and other harmful substances. This application can spawn small water purification and bottling companies that can sell clean water to supplement a community's income.
Heath Care: Solar systems are great for powering remote clinics and keeping vaccines refrigerated in areas where there is no power is available. It can be used to run centrifuges and other blood testing equipment at remote AIDS clinics where normal testing could not be carried out. This can save lives.
Lighting: Schools can now have lights to hold evening classes. This is a tremendous boost for rural communities where folks must work in the fields during the day. Now night classes can help advance the community.
Home Lighting: For less than a family spends on kerosene, candles, or wood we can provide solar powered lights for a home allowing students do study at night and the women to start small home based businesses.
